Cannes International Film Festival

electronic music events

Whilst most people know Cannes for the famous electronic music events l, there are a number of festivals that are less well known but that attract a great number of people to this fantastic town.

It starts in January with MIDEM. This is a music industry convention and conference doubling as a trade show which attracts delegates for over 60 different countries and fills all the hotels in the town for the 4 day bash. It coincides with the NRJ awards which are broadcast live in France and normally provides the locals with an opportunity to see some of the greatest current world-wide musical super stars. Much business was done here over the years but the advent of the digital and therefore global age has dented numbers in recent years.

The world of TV also has two electronic music events  each year. MIPCOM is a market place for delegates, again from all over the world to come to Cannes to buy and sell programming. Many stars of TV can be seen in Cannes at this time. MIPDOC is a slightly less glamorous sister event to MIPCOM, taking place in October, it is aimed at more or les the same market but is more restricted in terms of the programming traded being more concerned with documentary making that the wider TV productions which are traded at MIPTV another spin off festival of the TV business

MIPIM is a huge trade fair aimed at the luxury property market and again takes place annually in Cannes in March. People come from most of the expensive flesh pots of the world or sometime from the emerging property destinations to sell buy or seek investment opportunities in new projects, particularly now that the banks are not paying much interest, there is a lot of money chasing the right investment.
